At the Edge of the Philippines

A documentary featuring journeys to the Philippine border islands — remote communities, distant coastlines, and edge-of-the-map places that reveal how people live, travel, and survive where the country meets the open sea.

Mangsee Island

Palawan's Most Crowded Island 15 minutes off the coast of Malaysia

This SEFTV documentary brings viewers to Mangsee Island, one of the farthest island communities of Palawan and a Philippine border island near Malaysia. From above, the island looks small and surrounded by endless water, but on the ground it reveals a dense community where houses, boats, narrow pathways, and daily life are tightly packed into a limited space.

The story captures what makes Mangsee different from the usual island destination. It is not only about beaches or scenery — it is about how people live at the edge of the country, where the sea connects families, trade, travel, and survival. The island’s location near Sabah gives it a rare borderland character, making it feel both distant from mainland Palawan and close to another country.

Through this journey, SEFTV shows the reality behind a crowded remote island: the beauty of its surrounding waters, the challenge of reaching it, the closeness of the community, and the everyday resilience of people living in one of the Philippines’ most unusual and rarely documented places.

The Northernmost Town of Batanes

This town is just over 150 kilometers away from mainland Taiwan.

This SEFTV documentary follows the journey to Itbayat, Batanes — the northernmost municipality of the Philippines and one of the country’s most dramatic island frontiers. Located just over 150 kilometers from mainland Taiwan, Itbayat feels closer to another country than to the usual routes of Luzon, making it one of the most fascinating places to visit in the north.

Reaching Itbayat is already part of the story. The island is accessible only by boat or small aircraft, and travel depends heavily on weather, sea conditions, and limited schedules. But once there, the destination reveals a rugged kind of beauty: high cliffs, open grasslands, stone landscapes, quiet roads, and communities living in a place shaped by wind, distance, and the surrounding sea.

Through this video, SEFTV documents more than a scenic trip. It shows the feeling of standing in one of the farthest towns of the Philippines, where the geography, culture, and isolation create a rare travel experience. Itbayat is not just close to Taiwan — it is a reminder of how wide, remote, and extraordinary the edges of the Philippines can be.

Philippines Closest Island to Indonesia

What We Don’t Know About Southern Mindanao

This SEFTV documentary takes viewers to Balut Island, one of the southernmost island communities of the Philippines and a place that reveals a different side of Southern Mindanao. Located off Davao Occidental and facing the Indonesian border, Balut is not the usual image people imagine when they hear about Mindanao. It is an island shaped by the sea, border movement, local culture, and the presence of Mount Balut rising at its center.

The journey shows how remote this part of the country feels. Getting there means crossing open water, entering a community far from the usual travel circuit, and seeing how people live in a place connected not only to mainland Mindanao, but also to nearby Indonesian islands. The island carries stories of trade, migration, fishing, and everyday resilience that are rarely shown in mainstream travel content.

Through this episode, SEFTV uncovers a lesser-known part of Southern Mindanao — a volcanic island, a border community, and a destination that proves the Philippines has places that are still unfamiliar even to many Filipinos. Balut Island is more than a point near Indonesia; it is a reminder that the country’s edges hold some of its most surprising stories.

Beyond the Last Road

A documentary featuring journeys to some of the hardest-to-reach places in the Philippines — remote islands, isolated communities, rough mountain routes, and far-flung destinations where the road ends and the real adventure begins. These videos reveal the beauty, struggle, and everyday life in places few travelers ever reach.

Islands Far From the Usual Route

Stories from remote islands where the trip itself becomes part of the adventure.

This documentary set focuses on remote Philippine islands that require patience, timing, and determination to visit. From long boat crossings to uncertain schedules, each journey reveals how distance shapes both the destination and the people who call it home.

These stories capture the feeling of reaching places that remain quiet, isolated, and far from the usual tourist trail.

Life in Places Few People Reach

A closer look at remote communities living with isolation, resilience, and identity.

Beyond landscapes, SEFTV highlights the people found in distant barangays, island settlements, and overlooked communities. These documentaries show how they live, adapt, work, and stay connected in areas where access is limited and daily life is shaped by geography.

It is a way of understanding the human side of remoteness — not just where these places are, but how life continues there.

Routes Into the Unknown

Documenting the long routes, transfers, and uncertain paths toward the country’s most distant places.

Some of the most meaningful SEFTV stories begin long before arrival. This series focuses on the travel itself — the roads, ports, boats, weather delays, and difficult connections that turn remote destinations into true expeditions.

These journeys show that the route is not just a way to get there, but a big part of why the story matters.

The Story Behind SEFTV

Joseph Pasalo, the Leyte-born creator behind SEFTV, built his travel channel from a simple love for making videos. Before becoming known for cinematic travel vlogs, he worked as a freelance event videographer and learned the craft through real-world shoots, practice, and persistence.

His content found its voice when he shifted from ordinary city vlogs to rural places, remote islands, and destinations that were rarely shown online. With detailed storytelling, drone shots, voice-over, and documentary-style editing, SEFTV became known for bringing viewers to hidden parts of the Philippines.
